SILVANUS SLAUGHTER
CONSTELLATIONS COMPROMISED: VOLUME ONE
NEW SONGS OF LOVE ARRESTED BY SPACE AND TIME
Listen Now!
A cinematic trip though three decades and styles of pop, jazz, rock with detours into dance and Western. Several show-stoppers are featured, including the gospel-funk classic, "Sweet Resurrection," whose wailing saxophones, harmonicas, spiritual choir and lyrics establish Slaughter as a talent to closely watch (Shrinks are middle class / they bow to Sigmund Freud-as-God / So what?), and the hard, thrashing "Christ Did It All Before You," an anthem to salvation and a friend's suicide.
Slaughter's sophisticated uber-cowboy existentialism is forefront in "I Guess It's Just Her Way," which has been described as Bernard Herrmann (the legendary composer of "Psycho" and "Taxi Driver") at a dance club, and the shimmering "Sometimes I Weep for the Devil," a tale of stunted Hollywood lives that sounds like Ennio Morricone and Johnny Cash cracking a whip at the suits and dealmakers. A heart-crushing space-samba, "When Autumn Kills Our Spring," and the acappela "My Irish Moon" further evidence Slaughter as a poet and composer of distinction who is at once original and universal.
